More or less: recycling material brand
Due to Green house effect problem, people start to carry out the idea of recycling or changing garbage into the gold. Green product and Eco design are increasingly used among entrepreneurs who tend to make the factory material for utmost utilize in order to cut the cost and survivability of the business. Suvino Corporation Limited, the leather bag industry and the original equipment manufacturer for the oversea leather brand, also foreseen the benefits and was encouraged to use green product.
“Suvino Corporation Limited was found in 1987 started with small business. For 24 years of competing with many competitors, we are the first company who risked making an investment by purchasing the leather material and processing them into the leather wares for oversee export. That was my wife’s idea. She saw the opportunity to put our products on the Japanese market. We can eventually capture the Europe market such as Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, German, England, and Switzerland” said Mr. Tanit winyupradit, chief executive officer of Suvino Corporation Limited.
Suvino Corporation Limited has been supported by BIO because Suvino objective is doing the business under the client brands as an original equipment manufacturer. Due to the fact that most of Suvina products made from high quality materials imported from many foreign countries for example cowhide imported from Italy is naturally bleached producing grade A hide, 95% of client is satisfied with Suvino goods despite its high price. Suvino also produces sheepskin, serpent skin, or ray skin upon client orders and market needs.
Leather wares are classified as a vogue product, they have to be frequently adjust to suit the ages and the needs of client for example the Japanese client tend to like colorful, lovely but austere bags, size must not too big and naturally made with refinement while Europeans prefer medium size and big size bag with plain color. As a result, a ton of leather remnant is left piling up in the factory as the bag designs are frequently altered to match the client needs.
Because there are more than 10,000 bags producing each month and every piece is handmade, a lot of remainder is form breaking down in many types such as the remnant from leather cutting process or substandard waste product. The sum of the waste is approximately 5-10 million ton a year, worth more than a million baht. The production processes from raw hide to the complete product are waste up to 30-40%.
From this reason, Suvino tried to recycle the leather remnant by using workforce and current technology which made Suvino participated in “Convert waste into gold: Add value to garbage and save the world” project supported by Industrial Technology Assistant Program (iTAP), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and Thai Furniture Industries Association (TFA). Assist. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Field of Interest: Design Technology, Alternative Material, Kasetsart University: Faculty of Architecture, was assigned to be an expert consultant for this project.
The concept from the project leaded to the creation of desk decorations and house decorations such as pillow, chair, weaved basket, and etc. However, all the recycled stuffs are beautiful, durable, and high-class and up to standard together with gripping design with proper price which will nicely satisfy the leather ware lovers. Suvino planned to launch these products domestically in the name of “more OR less” brand targeting on group of teenagers and working ages that have intermediate and high purchasing power including favor in Bohemian and gypsy styles. The company was expecting a good feedback for this project.
Suvino Corporation Limited is one of the a few companies who turned a crisis into an opportunity by recycling the remainders into value products with unique design which can capture a large market and new group of targets.
